Surfer unhurt after shark bites his surfboard off Oceano State Beach
Lifeguards are warning of a shark attack in the water off Pier Avenue in Oceano on Saturday morning and a shark sighting off the Pismo Beach pier.
A surfer was in the water sometime between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. at Oceano Dunes State Beach when the shark bit his board, Oceano Dunes District Superintendent Brent Marshal said.
The surfer was uninjured but the shark left teeth marks indicating it had an 11-inch in diameter jaw, which would be consistent with an animal about 8 feet long, Marshal said. Authorities don't know what type of shark attacked.
Lifeguards have posted warning advising beach goers about the attack but are not telling swimmers to stay out of the water, he said.
Pismo Beach lifeguards got a report of a shark sighting in the water south of the Pismo pier at about 9 a.m., Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Lee said.
Swimmers in Pismo Beach were advised of the situation but were not told to stay out of the water.
