Surfer bitten by shark in New Smyrna Beach
A surfer from Orlando was bitten by a shark while in the ocean in New Smyrna Beach, a Beach Safety Ocean Rescue official said.
The 25-year-old man was bitten near the jetty, a place popular for surfing and shark bites, just before 10 a.m., said Capt. Tammy Marris, Beach Safety spokeswoman.
The shark bite, the third reported in Volusia County this year, was reported at 9:57 a.m., said sheriff’s spokesman Gary Davidson.
The surfer suffered a minor cut to the foot and did not go to the hospital, Marris said.
