Shark bite sends woman to hospital
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A woman was bitten by a shark in the water at Holden Beach at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday.
Barbara Corey, 63, of Supply, NC was bitten while in three to four feet of water in the 200 block of Ocean Boulevard East, according to a news release from the Holden Beach Police Department.
Officials say she reportedly felt something bite her right foot in the water and begin thrashing around. Corey then made her way to the shore, receiving assistance from several people on the beach, and found a bite wound on her right foot.
Holden Beach Police, Brunswick County EMS, and emergency responders from Tri-Beach Fire Department responded to the scene within minutes, according to the news release.
Officials say the victim was taken to Brunswick Community Hospital by Coastline Rescue. She was treated and is in stable condition.
