Swimmers and rowers are
used to encountering young black tip sharks
Hakahau Bay and consider them harmless.
But people are advised to avoid swimming at
nightfall, when the water is cloudy or near
fishermen who clean their fish near the
quay, not far from the beach. This event
aroused curiosity but was considered a minor
and isolated fact on the island.

was hunting small fish very close to the beach when it bit the boy’s knee twice.
