Shark warning issued for North Lancelin Beach after surfer reportedly knocked off board

A shark warning has been issued for North Lancelin Beach after a man was reportedly knocked off his hydro-foil surfboard Saturday afternoon.

The man in his 40s reported the shark interaction at 1.23pm with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development confirming the incident occurred 20m offshore and the species of the shark is unknown.

Luckily, the man sustained no injuries or damage to his board.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is monitoring the situation but urged beach goers to take additional caution in the Lancelin Beach area, adhere to beach closures and stay informed on reported shark activity.

A number of beaches including Mullaloo Beach, City Beach and Floreat Beach have also been closed today due to shark sightings.

This incident follows dozens of shark sightings over the Christmas period at some of Perth’s most popular beaches.

Scarborough and Brighton beach were forced to close on December 27 after a 2.5m Tiger Shark was spotted circling the shorelines.

If you see a shark, you should report the sighting to Water Police on 9442 8600.
