A shark attack occurred in Saint Kitts & Nevis on Saturday, resulting in injuries to a swimmer.

According to media reports, seven people went kayaking to Booby Island.

The uninhabited Island lies about half way between Saint Kitts & Nevis.

Media reports say the group of kayakers included medical students from Ross University.

They decided to swim when they arrived at their destination.

As a result, a female student among them came under shark attack.

SKNVibes reported that the police assisted in transporting the victim to the Alexandra Hospital in Nevis.

But the publication said the hospital could not save the student’s leg because the shark bite was severe.

Officials have not identified the victim.

However, they were making arrangements to fly her overseas for medical treatment.

It’s the second shark attack in the region in the past few weeks.

The Daily Herald of St. Maarten reported a fatal shark attack on a French tourist on December 10 in Orient Bay, St. Martin.

CBS News said the shark tore off the woman’s leg.

The attack, which experts described as rare, took place some 500 feet from shore.
