A man has been attacked by a shark at Matauri Bay in Northland.
A police spokeswoman said officers responded to reports a man had been bitten by a shark about 11:20am on Saturday.
"Police attended alongside ambulance. The man was transported to Bay of Islands Hospital," she said

A St John spokeswoman said the man suffered moderate injuries.

Locals spoken to by Stuff understood the man was diving near the Cavalli Islands when he was attacked by a mako shark.
It is the second shark attack in Northland in the last three months.
In October, Andrew "Nugget" Brough, 25, was attacked by a shark at Baylys Beach near Dargaville.
The great white shark's bite punctured his forearm and his hand. He said the puncture wound to his hand was so big, he could fit his finger in it.
