“A Shark bite is only one of many possible endings to a Shark Attack”
“An UNPROVOKED Shark Attack is only one of many types of Shark Attack”

When you see the words Unprovoked or Bite associated with Shark Attacks, someone is trying to hide shark dangers you may face should you enter the water. In most cases, the word unprovoked equals the number of incidents shared with the public. Any other type of Shark Attack is kept a secret from the public.

A 35-year-old scuba diver has died after a shark attacked him and bit off his entire left leg and part of his abdomen.

The shocking shark attack took place off the coast of Puerto Penasco, a city resort in the north-western Mexican state of Sonora on the Gulf of California.

According to local media, 35-year-old Nahum Verdugo Aguilera, who came from the state of Baja California, lost his life shortly after the attack.

Local police said that the incident happened at around 11am when the victim went out fishing with friends.

As soon as they realised he had been attacked, his companions took him ashore in the boat but the diver had already lost his life.

The police statement said: 'As soon as he went into the water, not even a minute passed before he was attacked and then seen floating on the surface.

'When they (colleagues) brought him on board the boat, they realised that he was missing a leg and part of his belly and rushed him to Puerto Penasco.

'Specialists arrived as well as the funeral company Santa Cecilia. The Ministerial Agency for Criminal Investigations has secured the boat, the Lidia Isabel.'

Following a preliminary investigation, official sources said: 'Witnesses said that the man was diving in an area called Hawey, 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) south-east of San Jorge Island, when the shark attacked him, biting off his left leg from the hip.'

A simple explanation of the word unprovoked is chosen to be shared. Each year shark attack researchers choose certain shark attacks they share with the public. The ISAF website states, “All of the data publically available on the ISAF website is from unprovoked incidents.” Ocean users, beware that the ISAF has 6800 incidents on file, with only 3292, or 47%, being chosen to be shared with the public. In 2019 they chose 45%, and in 2020 they only chose 44% of the investigated incidents.
