PLEASURE POINT — A Fremont man was fishing from his kayak near Pleasure Point when a 14-18-foot shark attacked the small yellow boat, leaving a large bite mark on the front end.
The 52-year-old man was thrown from the kayak but didn’t suffer any injuries. He was rescued by people in a nearby power boat who had seen the incident.
The shark attack happened about 8:30 a.m. Saturday approximately a quarter-mile from Pleasure Point just outside a kelp bed in 40 feet of water, sheriff’s deputies said.
The shark slapped up against the side of the boat and then came up from behind and knocked it over, Capitola Police Chief Rudy Escalante said.
