NEW SMYRNA BEACH — An Orlando teenager suffered a small puncture wound from a shark bite Monday, beach officials said.
Alan McIntosh, 19, was wading in knee-deep water near the 27th Avenue beach approach when the injury occurred around noon, said Volusia County Beach Patrol Capt. Tammy Marris.
McIntosh told lifeguards he saw the shark before he was hurt, Marris said. It was 3 to 4 feet long and was feeding on bait fish. The shark bite caused a puncture wound on his calf, and he was treated at the beach. He didn't go to the hospital for further care, Marris said.
The injury was the third reported shark bite in Volusia County this year.
