13-year-old injured in possible shark attack at Ocean Isle Beach
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WECT) -
A 13-year-old was injured in a possible shark attack that happened just before 12:45 p.m. Thursday near Monroe Street in Ocean Isle Beach.
According to Mayor Debbie Smith, the teen received three or four minor lacerations and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Smith said it appears a shark also took a bite out of the girl's boogie board.
Witness Daniel Mason sent us a picture of the girl being attended to by EMS officials. He says the victim was bitten on the foot and seemed shaken, but was alright.
In a 911 call released after the incident, the caller says the victim was bit on her right foot around her toe. "It's bleeding pretty bad," the caller explained. "It's still attached, it just bit her pretty good. You can tell it attacked the board first."
The caller told dispatchers the shark appeared to be about 4 feet in length.
