Surfer Bitten by Wobbegong Shark
A surfer was bitten on the hand by a shark at Lennox Head Point this afternoon.
A shark scientist from the NSW Department of Primary Industries believes the bite was most likely from a Wobbegong shark.
The surfer was driven to the Ballina Hospital by a member of the public.
Even though the injury was minor the other swimmers were ordered out of the water for a few hours as a safety precaution.
Ballina Shire Council, in conjunction with NSW Police have made the decision to close all Ballina Shire beaches for 24 hours.
This closer extends from Seven Mile Beach at Lennox Head to South Ballina Beach.
