A man has been bitten by a shark at a remote barramundi farm in northern Western Australia.

The 18-year-old suffered two bites to his right leg, one to the thigh and one to the lower leg.

The ABC understands the man was working on the farm in Cone Bay, north of Broome in the Buccaneer Archipelago, when he was confronted by a bull shark.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service was contacted, but their services were not required.

A spokeswoman said the man was being treated in the local Derby Hospital.

RFDS has since been asked to transport him from Derby Hospital to Royal Perth Hospital tomorrow morning as he may need surgery due to tendon damage.

Female bull sharks grow to an average of about 2.4 metres, while the males are usually slightly smaller. They live in both fresh and salt water.
