Teenager Attacked By Shark in South Carolina

A shark was spotted off a South Carolina coastline in this raw video.
Thursday, in the seaside South Carolina town of Murrells Inlet, a 15 year-old boy from Virginia was enjoying the water when he was attacked by a shark.

WMBF reports that the boy suffered bite marks that appear to be from a small shark on his leg and another on his hand from when he tried to get it off of his leg. J.R. Hanley, assistant chief of the Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire District, told ABC that the bleeding was controlled at the beach and the injuries were not life-threatening.

"He was attacked by at least a 4-foot shark. He started punching the shark and there was a bite mark. His skin was hanging off,” said Laura Jones, who was on the scene and got a photo of the incident. She said the people responded to help the injured teen very quickly and saved his life.

Shark attacks have been particularly present this summer. ABC also reported that Wednesday a young girl was bitten by a 3-foot shark in the waters off of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, while she was in approximately 2 feet of water.

In June, two minors in North Carolina lost limbs in separate shark attacks. A 12-year-old girl was attacked in Oak Island, North Carolina, and a 16-year-old boy was attacked less than two hours later about two miles away, reported
