NSB teen county's 10th shark-bite victim this year
NEW SMYRNA BEACH — A shark bit a 14-year-old New Smyrna Beach surfer on the left leg late Sunday afternoon as the teen floated on his board, according to Andrew Ethridge, captain with Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.
The incident marked the county’s 10th shark bite of the year.
Ethridge said Beach Safety officers responded near the New Smyrna Beach jetty about 4:45 p.m. and treated the teen for minor cuts. The shark, which was not seen, left a bite pattern 4 inches in diameter. Officials said the surfer’s name was not available for release Sunday
