Shark bites man at Marco Island beach

MARCO ISLAND, FL - A man is recovering from a shark bite that happened at a private beach on Marco Island Sunday.

First responders say the 63-year-old man was standing in water less than two feet deep at Residents' Beach when the shark bit him in the leg several times.

"It looked like multiple bites actually at least two or three bites," added DeLeon.

The man - identified as Jessen Carsten - told first responders that he thought he was looking at small dolphins swimming around him and his family when he felt the bites and jumped out of the water. The shark was estimated to be three to four feet in length.

"It happened so quick he didn't even know what hit him and he just saw blood start pouring out, and that's when his family helped him back onto shore," said first responder Sergio DeLeon.

The man was taken to Physicians Regional in Naples where he was discharged just hours later.

Residents' Beach is a private beach near the island's popular Tigertail Beach. Beachgoers tell us they will be taking extra caution the next time they step in the water.

"I'm not going to go out very far," said beach goer Tina Knight.
