Bodyboarder fends off shark at Rotto
A bodyboarder had a close encounter with a 3m long shark at Rottnest Island earlier today.
According to the Department of Fisheries, the bodyboarder pushed the shark away while swimming in Fish Hook Bay about 11.30am.
The species of shark is not known.
Two hours earlier, the department reported a "large white shark" sighting at Salmon Bay.
A Surf Life Saving WA spokeswoman said the Westpac Surf Life Saving helicopter had been sent to the scene.
Fish Hook Bay is on the western part of the island and is popular with snorkelers and scuba divers.
More than 1000 school leavers are expected to travel to Rottnest Island on Monday for Leavers' week.
