Remains found in shark identified

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) ---- Human remains found inside a huge tiger shark caught off Australia's eastern coast belong to a missing fisherman, police said Wednesday.

A skull, arm and pelvis were found Sunday when fisherman cut open the 10-foot-long shark after catching it in waters about 60 miles north of Sydney.

Police said the remains inside the 815-pound shark were those of 52-year-old Kang Suk Lee, from Sydney.

Lee was washed into the sea while fishing from rocks near Port Kembla, about 90 miles south of Sydney, on April 2.

Shreds of clothing in the shark matched clothing Lee was wearing when he was swept off rocks, police said.

An autopsy on Tuesday revealed the victim had probably drowned before he was eaten by the shark.

Fatal shark attacks are rare in Australia. Last year three swimmers were bitten by sharks, but all survived. The last recorded fatal attacks in Australia were in 2000, when there were three.
