Report of shark bite closes Martin County’s Bathtub Reef Beach
County lifeguards on Friday afternoon closed the waters off Bathtub Reef Beach following a suspected shark bite, Martin County Fire Rescue said.
About 4:35 p.m. Friday, lifeguards received a report of a male bitten by what is suspected to be a shark, said Daniel Woulters, Fire Rescue spokesman.
The victim’s age and the part of his body on which he was bitten were not available. The injury is described as minor, Wouters said.
Lifeguards flew double red flags for the rest of the afternoon and ordered swimmers out of the water.
The beach, on Southeast MacArthur Boulveard just north of Sailfish Point, will reopen Saturday morning.
