A bodyboarder 31 years, Eddy Auber, a resident of St. Paul, died yesterday evening in an attack of sharks on the spot of Ti Boucan. Several bite marks were found on his body. This is the first fatal attack on this site quite popular in times of swell.

New shark attack. Shortly before 18 pm last night on the spot Boucan Ti, less than 200 meters from shore. An isolated bodyboarder is grabbed by a shark. On the beach, witnesses see him raise his hand, then pour on two occasions. They tried to intervene but were deterred by the sight of several fins. They can only follow eyes the body of the unfortunate who drift. When bodyboarder is returned to the shore at the height of the hotel Saint-Alexis, it is already too late. Eddy Auber has severed his right arm. He suffers from two deep bites in the thigh and the side of the torso. The young man had probably died of a hemorrhage. Arrived, the firefighters of St. Paul and a team Smur can only find death. A bite mark from about 20 cm is visible on the board. The scene, particularly challenging, takes place before dozens of witnesses. Patrick Commoner, a local resident, helped a rider to bring the body back to shore. He says: "The body was very messed up. There were several bites. He was already dead when he was out of the water. " The man thinks that bodyboarder was attacked by several sharks. Hypothesis accredited by another riparian, who said he saw the night before, "two fins at the same location on the edge of the ocean".

Conditions for an attack

According to the specialist Fanch Landron, we joined yesterday, the group attacks are not impossible. They can be generated by "confusion food. Only the study of the bites will identify the type of shark. The last reported sighting in the observation network "Squal'idées" date of just ten days: a bulldog off Saint-Gilles. One thing is sure, the conditions of yesterday were particularly conducive to the presence of sharks: the aftermath of heavy rains, leaving Gulch, swell. "The water was cloudy and foamy for two days because the gully was disgorged into the ocean after the rains," said Patrick, who lives just opposite the beach. This is the first time a fatal attack occurs Boucan-Canoe. In 2007, lifeguards will remember a young bodyboarder was bitten are not serious, the knee, the main spot. Present in numbers, the police of St. Paul made use of the findings. The victim's body was examined by a doctor before being transported to the hospital Gabriel Martin. It should be returned to his family today. Eddy Auber was aged 31. He lived in the neighborhood of Bois-de-Saint-Paul Nèfles. Seasoned practitioner and passionate, his face was familiar to those familiar with Boucan, according to SNM
