A simular incident happened near this same location in 2006.

It was called a bluefish bite by officials also.

The ISAF and GSAF investigated that incident and recorded it as a shark attack.

Several Spanish beaches close after shark bites 11-year-old

Saturday, July 25, 2009

A STRING of beaches have been closed in Spain after a shark attacked a schoolgirl.

The 11-year-old holidaymaker was taken to hospital after being bitten in the foot. She was sent home after having stitches to a two inch cut.

Marine police were yesterday patrolling the coast off Tarragona on Spain’s east coast in a hunt for the fish, believed to be a blue shark.

The unnamed youngster was attacked just after 10am at Sant Salvador de El Vendrell beach.

It was closed to bathing afterwards along with two neighbouring beaches.

Blue sharks are one of the 20 or so species of shark considered dangerous and have attacked humans.

They are present off the coast of Tarragona, but rarely approach the shoreline.
