ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A fox bit a woman and a shark bit a man in separate parts of the county Friday afternoon, though neither victim sustained serious injuries, a St. Lucie County Fire District spokeswoman said.
Fire district crews were called at 12:39 p.m. to the 2500 block of Southwest Hinchman Street in Port St. Lucie and found a woman who'd reportedly been bitten by a fox, Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.
The woman, who is in her mid 40s, was working in her yard when the attack happened. She ran inside and her dog ran out where it fought with the fox and also was bitten.
Less than an hour later, crews met a surfer south of Florida Power & Light Co.'s nuclear plant. A shark bit the man, who is in his 20s, on his forearm as the man was surfing. He was treated at the scene, and told medics he'd drive himself to the hospital.
